The Kalmar Nyckel Foundation is a non-profit 501(c)(3) educational organization with the mission of preserving and promoting the cultural and maritime heritage of Delaware and the Delaware Valley for the education and enrichment of all. The Foundation is a volunteer-based organization that built, owns, and operates the Kalmar Nyckel.

We sail because thereís nothing like the excitement of a child when she helps hoist a 17th-century sail and it catches the wind. Because when students learn how celestial navigation charts the journey of a Tall Ship across the Atlantic, they are more likely to understand the principles of geometry and astronomy involved. And because thereís no better way to teach the value of teamwork than by giving a group of 5th graders the task of starting a colony in the new world.

Our Brick Walkway

Donating a brick to the walkway at the main entrance of the Copeland Maritime Center is a great way to leave a lasting impression!  Bricks come in three sizes - 4x8 for $100, 8x8 for $250 and 12x12 for $1000.  Thank you!

Did you know: That Fort Christina was named for Swedish Queen Christina, who was 12 years old in 1638?
